Technical presentation - 30 minutes (including q&a)
Maintaining an Android phone over many OS versions is still difficult. At Fairphone we want to support our phones for up to 10 years but it’s not a simple task given the dependencies on all the suppliers and technical difficulties connected to that. We’ll talk about our issues and achievements with getting the phones to new software versions, how GRF is relevant and how out-of-date kernel versions are putting roadblocks into the way.
Luca Weiss works as Android & Linux Kernel Engineer at Fairphone working on extending the software lifespan of phones, enabling them to last longer. He is also maintaining and contributing to many open source projects such as postmarketOS, a Linux distribution for phones, and contributes various patches to the Linux kernel.
