In this talk, presented by a former Google Android Product Manager in charge of EU Digital Markets Act (now CEO of source.dev), we will explore key upcoming regulations related to device software longevity and security. We’ll examine how these regulatory changes will impact current software development practices, focusing on EU Ecodesign, the EU Cyber Resilience Act, the UK Product Security and Telecommunications Infrastructure legislation, and relevant US executive orders.
Serban spent over 13 years working on Android at Google and Arm. He contributed to porting Android to 64-bit and led product management for the Arm Memory Tagging, Android Runtime and Native, Android Memory Safety and Android Virtualization. In his last two years at Google he led Android's Longevity and Regulation programs, working closely with key Android OEMs and EU regulators. In 2024, he left Google to co-found source.dev with fellow ex-Googler David Brazdil. Their mission is to make developing and maintaining device codebases more efficient through AI-native DevOps tooling.
